Dialogues In The Dark [Karanlıkta Diyaloglar]

Ulla Lemberg, a Swede cameraman, and Melek Taylan, a Turkish filmmaker, are traveling in the South East of Turkey , hearing the life stories of the women who are under the death threat inflicted upon them on account of their relationships and behaviors not approved by their families. The stories of these women show that the traditions of a patriarchal tribal community over the notions of chastity and disgrace which make both men and women victims.. The filmmakers interview men as the decision makers of the crimes perpetrated by close relatives to the woman, usually the brother, father or uncle. During their travel, they find the opportunity to meet with the women from KAMER, a women’s right’s organization in Diyarbakır. The film is one of the first films made on the subject of “honor killings” in Turkey and has had a wide audience in Turkey and abroad.
